VIU Rowers Make Waves at the Gorge Regatta

A few weeks ago, VIU Rowing Club members Mikhayla and Ayla took to the water at the Head & Tail of the Gorge Regatta in Victoria — earning an impressive 5th place finish in their doubles category!

Hosted by the Gorge Narrows Rowing Club at Esquimalt Gorge Park, the event featured a 4.5-kilometre course through the Gorge Waterway, including the Tillicum Narrows off the coast of southern Vancouver Island.

The regatta drew competitors from across British Columbia, Alberta, and the Pacific Northwest — with some coming from as far away as the Maritimes and Europe. Despite the challenging conditions, Mikhayla and Ayla powered through with focus, coordination, and determination to secure their 5th-place standing.

Their strong performance reflects the team’s dedication, grit, and love of the sport, setting a high bar for the rest of the season. Congratulations to both athletes for representing VIU with skill and pride — we can’t wait to see what’s next!
