The ISIC (International Student Identity Card) is the only internationally recognized proof of full-time student status, and is a student travel discount card in more than 70 countries worldwide, including Canada.
The ISIC is issued free of charge to all full-time members of the Canadian Federation of Students and costs $20 for non-members.
As Federation members, Vancouver Island University students can get a free ISIC by bringing a passport sized picture, one piece of government photo id and their VIU student card to the Students' Union office.
The ISIC cards take 1-7 days to process.
In 1996 the Students' Union secured a discounted rate on bus fares for all students who are attending Vancouver Island University.
Available exclusively in the Students' Union office, student rate bus passes and tickets are valid throughout the Regional District of Nanaimo.
Students can also take advantage of the Semester Pass, which is available at the start of each semester in September, January and May and provides unlimited bus transportation for four months.
For more information call (250) 754-8866 or visit the Students' Union office.
The Studentsaver Card is Canada's only student owned and operated national student discount program. With thousands of discounts across Canada, the Studentsaver helps students save money on everyday purchases like books, clothing, food, and entertainment.
Members simply take their card to any of the participating businesses to receive discounts ranging from 10% to 50% off purchased goods and services. In addition to discounts, the card acts as a Federation membership card. Unlike the ISIC, the Studentsaver Card is available to part-time students.
You can get you free Studentsaver Card in the Students’ Union day planner that is available in the office of the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union.
