General interest clubs enable members to organize around personal or group interests and obtain resources to further those interests. These clubs range in size and purpose from a small groups of students interested in Japanese anime and gaming, to large clubs of students seeking to immerse themselves in diverse cultures.

Our mission is to promote African and Caribbean culture on campus and in the community through cultural event and activities.
The Chinese Art Union propagates Chinese art culture, and convenes people with artistic skills.
The Chinese Club is a group dedicated to helping the Chinese students at VIU adapt to Canadian culture. The Club also works to share Chinese culture with others and help build a connection with Canadian students. Our goal is to enrich Chinese students' school lives in Canada through hosting a variety of events.
The VIU Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) is a non-political, non-profit, independent organization for Chinese students and scholars at VIU. CSSA is responsible for helping away-from-home Chinese scholars with their life, study, work and other issues. Together we can work towards an easier, smoother transition into the community by working with the University Administration, Students' Union, and other local communities and function groups; such as the Nanaimo Chinese Cultural Society and Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society.
The VIU Community Peace Garden is a group of students who are interested in gardening. The club hosts workshops, field trips, and a space to garden on campus.
The VIU Hidden Heroes Club is a team of self motivated and mutually supportive individuals who wish to make a difference in the community by doing things that any ordinary person could do, and finding ways to encourage others to do the same thus inspiring positive change.
The Club has been found on the foundations of the Hidden Heroes Education Society, which is a non-profit organization that exists to inspire all of us to seek out the best in ourselves and each other, and to strive to make a difference; one person, one family, one community at a time.
In today's fast paced world, many of us have become so engrossed in our search for success that we go to the extent of breaking rules and going against ethics and morals. The club members will attempt to be strong, positive role models acting to counteract this behavior.
[The club was not re-ratified in 2011/12]
A club for people who like video games, anime, comics, tabletop games and all that nerdy stuff.
