This is the 3rd annual Memorial March to honour the over 500 missing and murdered women from Vancouver Island and all across Canada. The march will take place on Feb 14th to coincide with the marches across Canada.
We will gather at Pandora and Vancouver on the green space and rally at 11 am. At noon we will march down Pandora to Government and then down Government to Totem Park (this is not finalized). There we will have speeches and provide lunch. We are asking people to wear red or regalia and bring drums and to remember loved ones. Everyone is welcome to participate.THIS YEAR'S MARCH IS NOT A PROTEST - the community has asked for a MEMORIAL march and that is what this will be - much more like Vancouver's than the one here last year. Nation flags will be welcome but all signs must be about the women. Any activist-like events will take place in the week prior to the march.
Email Lisa Wilson at abrep@viusu to book a spot on the bus heading to Victoria (limited seats are available).
Join the Vancouver Island University Students' Union in celebrating Eating Disorder Awareness week. We will be showing the film '36-24-36' and handing out popcorn. It's an insightful feature length documentary film, made by pre-adolescent girls, that explores the issue of female body image and its correlation with eating disorders.
The film gives the viewer a firsthand perspective of Jessica and Shannon's battles with anorexia while lending itself to the professional opinions of counsellors and dieticians who work with adolescent women. It also explores the reality and insights of pre-adolescent girls who, prior to making this film, thought very little about the perception of female body image within our society.
Come join us outside the Students' Union Building in celebrating our natural sizes. There will be activities including what you love about your body, positive body image exercises, resources, and some giveaways.
We are joined by the Health & Wellness Desk.
The VIU Women's Collective is a collective of women students who want to be active, organized, and mobilized on issues of equality on campus, in the community and around the world. Members and allies participate in any way they can, and are involved in the planning and implementation of events, campaigns and advocacy, in collaboration with the Women Students' Representative.
We meet every Monday at 4pm inside the Students' Union at the chair formation in the second set set of doors.
Everyone is welcome, including our male allies.
